2022: What is ARTIVAL?
ARTIVAL is a celebration of the linguistic, cultural and ethnic diversity that exists among artists. It is places the artist and their practice at the center; it is about bringing people and places together, creating meaningful and enriching experiences; and it is about gaining a clearer understanding of different processes, perspectives and viewpoints. ARTIVAL takes a human rights approach to festival planning and execution and focuses on SDG10 Reducing Inequalities, SDG11 Sustainable Cities & Communities and SDG17 Partnerships for the Goals.

2022: AN23 Program Design & Collaborations
Much of this year has been spent developing the concept of ARTIVAL Nordic ’23 (AN23), reaching out to arts and culture institutions, and discussing the possibilities that ARTIVAL presents. We are submitting funding applications on an ongoing basis and we can happily share that we have received 300,000 DKK from Nordic Culture Fund’s Project Funding pool – thank you Nordic Culture Fund.
We are working on a brand new website, so in the meantime, click on the image below to be taken to a gorgeous presentation of ARTIVAL Nordic ’23. AN23 is scheduled to happen between February and June next year and will be brought to Copenhagen & Frederiksberg (DK), Helsinki & Kotka (FI), Oslo (NO), Stockholm & Malmö (SWE) and Reykjavik (IS) by IMMART (DK), Red Door,(DK), Globe Art Point (FI) and Reykjavik Ensemble (IS)

2021: Opstart funding for ARTIVAL, Nordic
In 2021 we were awarded Opstart funding from Nordic Culture Fund to develop ARTIVAL into a Nordic endeavour. The funding has allowed us to spend some months brainstorming, workshopping and drafting a concrete proposal for a festival that will take place in all five Nordic countries in 2023.
Our team that worked together during the Opstart period consisted of: Janice Dunn (board member) and Nicol Savinetti (founder and chairperson) from IMMART; Pálína Jónsdóttir and Ewa Marcinek (founders) from Reykjavik Ensemble; Jaana Simula (managing director), Ruby Gupte (chairperson), and Alex Kollerovà (project manager) from Globe Art Point, and Sacramento Roséllo (partner) from NoxLit. Unfortunately, our colleagues from Northing Space in Norway had to withdraw from the project due to unforeseen circumstances related to the pandemic. We all gained a lot from their participation and we look forward to working together again at some point in the future.
As a result of the pandemic, we held four meetings and three workshops online, and had the usual email exchange and old fashioned phonecalls inbetween too. The disruption caused by COVID-19 was quite immense and highlighted several issues related to being a migrant (namely just how much more complicated life is when welfare and wellbeing needs are not or cannot be met) and being small arts organisations (namely, fewer hands on deck and other limited resources). Nonetheless, we emerged from the process a little later than expected, but with a solid plan for how we would like to execute ARTIVALs in the future, and in particular the content and execution of ARTIVAL Nordic 23.

2016: ARTIVAL, Denmark
In 2016 IMMART was known as Immigrant Art. Our very first major event was to put together a festival that would showcase the talents of artists who were born outside of Denmark. ARTIVAL 2016 brought together exhibiting and performing artists originating from across the globe – from Europe, USA and South America, to East, West and South Asia. Poetry, photography, painting, drawing, art talks, music and a kids artistic workshop were all included in the festival program with events held in Vesterbro, Vanløse, Frederiksberg and the city center, at cafés, galleries, churches, on public squares and in other institutions. We had over 250 visitors/guests.
